Although global climate change is very much a reality and is likely to affect the lives of billions of people across the globe, some people still doubt this phenomenon. Those, who refuse to believe, often allege that it is an exaggerated by scientists and media who have their own axe to grind from the fear. This, however, is mythical as researches conducted by scientists and environmentalists show that climate change is occurring, and it is likely to increase in intensity if left unchecked. |
Another false notion associated with climate change is that it is likely to lead to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. This is not true as the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are not dependent on what goes on the surface of the planet. They are determined by activities taking place below the surface of earth.
While people agree that any increase in global temperatures is likely to cause the polar icecaps to melt, they feel that global warming and the consequent climate change would not affect the cycle of seasons. In recent times, it has been observed that even a marginal impact on the regular seasonal cycle can cause large scale devastation.
The other myth that often comes to be associated with climate change is that its impact on our lives would be minimal, and it would take another century or more to really start affecting the lives of people. This is not true. If one takes a look at the recent natural disasters, one would find out that many of them have been consequence of global climate change. Therefore, there is not much time left for people and governments.
