How To Reduce Climate Change ?

Global climate change, though a destructive phenomenon, is not irreversible. Thankfully, it can be reduced to a large extent by taking corrective steps and measures before it is too late. In order to understand how climate change can be reduced, it is first important to understand What Causes Climate Change ?.

Climate change occurs due to increased emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These greenhouse gases are generally released by vehicles or thermal power plants which burn hydrocarbons to produce energy. These gases have a unique property of absorbing heat. If their quantity or concentration increases, then the environment that they surround is likely to be warmer. This affects the seasonal pattern of the planet in the long run.

Therefore, in order to reduce climate change, governments all over the world need to devise policies which discourage burning of fossil fuels, and encourage the usage of greener sources of energy. However, it is easier said that done as most of economies, whether developed or developing, depend largely on energy from fossil fuels. This is because they are relatively cheap and easy to obtain and use. Moreover, many nations lack the technical or technological know-how about using green energy. It is, therefore, the duty of the developed countries to help developing or under developed countries switch over from fossil fuel to greener sources of energy.

Developed countries have a much more important role to play. It is a known fact that developed countries consume far more energy than the developing ones. Therefore, governments should also take measures to make their energy consumption as efficient as possible if they are at all serious about dealing with the menace of climate change.

Myths-Of-Climate-Change      Although global climate change is very much a reality and is likely to affect the lives of billions of people across the globe, some people still doubt this phenomenon. Those, who refuse to believe, often allege that it is an exaggerated by scientists and media who have their own axe to grind from the fear. This, however, is mythical as researches conducted by scientists and environmentalists show that climate change is occurring, and it is likely to increase in intensity if left unchecked. More..
