Collapse Of Civilization Due To Climate Change

The phenomenon of global climate change has the capacity to bring about a total collapse of civilizations all across the globe. This is because every civilization that exists today depends on farming to sustain itself. So far, no alternative method of growing crops and vegetables on a large scale has been discovered or devised. Farming remains the source of food for billions of people around the world.

While some developed countries of this planet have extensive irrigation systems to meet the requirement of water for farming purposes, there are also those countries where farming continues to depend on seasonal rainfalls. The activities and actions of man in recent times have led to disruption in global climatic cycles leading to either deficient or excessive rainfalls.

If global warming continues unchecked, it would spell disaster for global economies in the long term. Today, we live in a global world where every major and minor economy is in some way connected to the other one. Negative consequence of climate change on one economy is likely to have an impact on all other economies which are connected to it.

A major economic crisis due to shortage of food would lead to chaos and anarchy. Civilizations, which took thousands of years to build and flourish, are likely to collapse in less than a century if they are unable to tackle problems arising out of climate change. In addition to that, in case of scarcity of resources like water, countries are very likely to wage war against each other. We can find instances in history when a single catastrophic event wiped out entire civilizations.
