When Did Technology Begin ?

To be able to answer when technology began, it is important to understand what technology is. Basically, technology is the application of knowledge that comes under the purview of science. It deals with the human species and animal species’ ability to utilize their knowledge of tools and crafts so that the species can not only to adapt to their environment, but also manage to control that environment.

Given this definition, we find that technology began in the earliest human or animal endeavor that made use of a tool to adapt to its natural settings. When the primitive man fashioned weapons for hunting animals or self defense, he was using technology. When the first monkey used a stone to crack nuts, it was using technology. Thus, we see that technology began when animals, including humans, began their struggle for existence.

Every great technological innovation marks the beginning of a new era in the history of technology, and this greatly influences people’s lifestyle and the world of business. The best examples are the invention of electricity, telephone and radio that changed the way people lived and perceived things around them. Another good example is the dotcom bubble, or the Internet boom, which began in the late 1990s with the extensive use of the World Wide Web for commercial purposes. This period saw the rise and fall of e-businesses in a short span of time, and it had dramatic impacts on the stock markets.

Technology is rapidly advancing, and it can be traced back to the time when man sought to exploit the scientific knowledge and reasoning available to him for the betterment and convenience of mankind.
