Swine flu is an infectious disease caused by the H1N1 virus. This disease, if neglected, can become a life threatening one. Like other viruses, this virus too requires certain time to express itself. This time period is termed as the incubation period. Here is some information about incubation period of H1N1 virus. |
If you are infected with the H1N1 virus, you are likely to suffer from the symptoms of swine flu within a time period of seven days. Sometimes, it could be very early, within a period of two days. However, this information is given based on the statistical information collected after studying the infected people. But, the characteristics of the virus are yet to be studied in-depth.
Individuals, who are infected with the virus, become contagious once the incubation period of the virus is completed, and they start to show the symptoms characteristic of swine flu. The disease spreads whenever a person sneezes or coughs. They remain infectious until they have the symptoms.
To prevent the spread of the infection, it is recommended to cover the nose and mouth whenever the infected people cough or sneeze. It is because of the fact that the virus will be dead within a period of 20 minutes over soft surfaces. But, it has longer life of 24 hours over hard surfaces.
It is responsibility of every person to prevent the spread of the swine flu and remain at home if they are infected. Some people avoid contact even with the relatives of the infected people, which is not really essential if the relatives do not have the symptoms of the flu.
