Today, people are very busy in their daily routine, and hardly find time to watch sports that are broadcasted in various media. But it was entirely different at the dawn of sports broadcasting. When the sports broadcasting started for the first time, there was a very great rise in television and radio sales. |
It all began in the United States on August 5, 1921 when the first baseball game was broadcasted on radio. Live commentary could be heard about the ongoing game for the very first time. It was a game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies. A huge number of people heard the commentary through radio sets.
The first television broadcast of a sports event took place on October 27, 1939. It was a National Football League game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Brooklyn Dodgers. Fact is that television sets became very popular when the broadcasting of sports events started. It can be said that sports gave life to television sets.
Earlier, it was very hard to record any sporting event as the cameras needed very bright light. To accomplish the goal of perfect broadcasting, sporting events such as boxing were conducted in the midst of brightly lighted facilities. However, with the improvement of the technology, these drawbacks were overcome, and now the task of sports broadcasting is a simple, and we have a great number of channels presenting sporting events.
Some of the sporting events that are known to have audiences throughout the world include Summer Olympic Games, Cricket World Cup, UEFA Champions League, Super Bowl, and Rugby World Cup. When these sporting events are on, we can see a great number of people who stick up to their television sets or radio sets neglecting their work and all other responsibilities!
