Here is one piece of odd world news that should keep you smiling all day long if not shaking your head in disbelief.

Apparently if a zoo runs out of exotic animals, there are several options for them. One such option is painting animals to deceive the visitors. At least that is what the zoo in Gaza, Palestine did. The zoo painted two white donkeys with stripes across their coats so that visiting children, who had never seen a zebra could get up close enough to pet the faux zebras.

Although these zebras may not have fooled its predators, to the small children and adults who happened to glance their way the donkeys were pretty convincing. Looking a little closer, one may have thought the donkeys had escaped from the animal jail with their convict looking stripes and drooping heads.

The donkeys were painted via the use of masking tape and hair dye. The son of the Mara Land Zoo owner, Nidal Bargouthi, said that at first regular paint was used in an attempt to give the donkeys the zebra stripes. However, the result was not as stunning.

Bargouthi stated that since the children do not realize that the donkeys were in fact donkeys and not zebras, they were quite excited to see the animals and experience something new.

The owner of the zoo, Mohammed Bargouthi said that zebras were too expensive to bring to the Gaza area given the Israeli blockade, and that in order to get one, they would have to be smuggled through a tunnel under the border. Thus, donkeys were used in their place.

However, at least the children are not over paying to see the donkey-zebras due to the fact admission to the zoo are only $15 per bus. At that rate, we may soon see some donkey-zebras all over the place!
