Tiger Woods timeline as a sportsman is mostly composed of great successes. |
Tiger became the Optimist International Junior World Golf Champion in years 1984 and 1985. He won again in 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991.
In 1992 he won the US Junior National Championships. Two years later, he graduated from high school and entered Stanford University to take up Economics. It was during his first year in college when he won the US Amateur Championships title. In 1995, he defended the title as US Amateur Champion while still attending school.
In 1996, he dropped out of the university to focus solely on Golf to become a professional player. During this same year, he was also named as "Sportsman of the Year" by Sports Illustrated –a great achievement for the 20 year old.
In 1997, Woods became the youngest Masters winner in history and the first of African/Asian descent. And in 1998, he finally achieved the No. 1 World Ranking.
In 1999, he was named PGA Player of the Year. And in 2000, he also became the youngest golfer to win the British open just by 8 strokes.
In 2002, he becomes the youngest golf player to win seven consecutive PGA majors. Three years later, Woods won the Masters for the fourth time. During this year he also joined 6-time champ Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer who won 4 times as the only players who have won four Masters or more.
The years 2007 to 2009 document Woods continuous success in the field of Golf. And by the end of 2009, Woods was placed at the center of controversy involving his marital problems and alleged extramarital relationships. Amidst all the great things he achieved, the scandal smeared Woods’ reputation as a role model.
