Tiger Woods, the golf superstar was born on the 30th of in the year 1975 in the sleepy town of Cypress, California.He was born Eldrick Woods and the only child of Earl Woods and Kultida Woods. 

According to his parents, Woods' genius was discovered at an early age. They told the story about one time when Tiger Woods already started to play putter even before he learned how to walk. They added that Woods does not only have the ingenuity for the sport but the passion as well. Woods first grabbed media attention when he was just about three years old. Woods beat the famed comedian and a known avid golfer, Bob Hope in a putting contest. Even before he realized it, Tiger Woods was already hailed as a prodigy, a kid with exceptional talent.

Woods' father admits that he has devoted a great number of time and energy to train his son. There was an instance when while practicing, Wood's father would distract his son's attention by making unnecessary noises. This is according to him, a way to build his discipline and focus.

Tiger Woods grew up in Orange County, California. As a kid, he pretty much experienced the same things that a normal kid of his age would experience. He got to taste junk food and experience playing video games. But golf has been the focus of his attention. He was already joining youth tournaments at a very young age and won his first formal competition at the age of eight. From that time on, Tiger Woods has been unstoppable.

Woods went to Stanford University and took up Economics. While in college he won the Amateur Tournament and qualified to play in the Master's Tournament in Georgia and Austria.

The year 1996 was an amazing year for Woods as he won three amateur titles in that year; an extraordinary accomplishment for a 20 year old. He then decided to quit college and devote his time to golf.

On his 21st birthday, Woods marked the occasion with a change of legal name. He changed his name from Eldrick to Tiger. True to his name, Tiger became the tiger in the golf course.
Sports illustrated named him "Sportsman of the Year" during his first year as a professional golfer and by January 2007, he achieved the superstar status by winning three professional tournaments.
