Why Did Bob Goen Leave Entertainment Tonight ?

Bob Goen is often considered to be one of the most influential hosts of the celebrity news show Entertainment Tonight. This is even though he left the show way back in August 2004. One of the reasons that he may have been so well received by American audiences is due to the fact that he was the longest running anchor on the television show appearing since April 12, 1993 as a substitute anchor initially.

On May 3, 1996 John Tesh decided to leave Entertainment Tonight in order to pursue a career in talk radio. As a result of Tesh’s departure, Goen was promoted to a permanent anchor appearing along with Mary Hart his co-anchor. During the run of the show, Goen not only was well known for his nightly appearances on the entertainment show, but he also ended up becoming a household name after he hosted Miss USA, Miss Teen and Miss Universe beauty pageants several times.

Although he enjoyed his time in the spotlight using his fame to propel him into two movies playing himself as the anchor of Entertainment Tonight, Goen decided to leave his position as an anchor in order to spend more time with his new wife Marianne Curan. The couple was married in 2004, and with his past divorce Goen felt it was important to concentrate on his new marriage.

In his free time, Goen still does charity work with the Make A Wish Foundation by hosting an annual charity golf tournament named “The Bob Goen Lexus International.”
